BREAKING NEWS: International Contractor Arrested at Airport Over Alleged $380,000 Tax Evasion
An international contractor, Mark Heron, identified as a leading interior service provider for the Marriott International, has been arrested in connection with alleged tax violations in South Africa.
According to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Mr. Heron was required to pay $380,000 in non-residential tax — representing 10% of the $3.8 million payment he reportedly received from Marriott for contracted services.
Authorities confirmed that Mr. Heron was apprehended at the Cape Town international airport while allegedly attempting to leave the country without settling the outstanding tax obligation.
He is currently in custody pending further action by the South African Revenue Service and is expected to face charges related to tax fraud.
